Three Guineas

Three Guineas

£750.00

Woolf, Virginia. Three Guineas. The Hogarth Press. London 1938. 8vo. Original canary yellow cloth, with title in gilt. Dust jacket illustration by Vanessa Bell.

Written in the form of a letter to an unnamed man, Three Guineas is Woolf’s masterful rejection of war and was published as Europe shifted to fascism. Woolf argues that men are the cause of war and preoccupies herself with how women can prevent it. She imagines she has three guineas and contemplates how best to spend the guineas considering the aims of stopping war, supporting a campaign to rebuild a woman’s college, and an organization to promote women’s employment in professional fields.

Book in very good condition with slight foxing and off-setting to endpapers, last signature slightly cracked at bottom of spike, but binding firm. Dust jacket in very good near fine condition with slight foxing at edges of wraps and on reverse, toning at spine. A bright copy of an exceptional work.
