23 May, 2019 - The Second Shelf Salon: Wayétu Moore For the first event in our new monthly series, The Second Shelf Salon, cultural critic and the Managing Editor of The Second Shelf's magazine Lucy Scholes will be in conversation with Wayétu Moore, the founder of One Moore Book, a non-profit organisation that encourages reading among children of countries with low literacy rates and underrepresented cultures. Moore, who has written for The Paris Review, Guernica, and The Atlantic among other publications, will be discussing both her debut novel, She Would Be King, a wild and vibrant alternate history of magical black resistance, and the books (written by women) that have been important in her life and influenced her work.
