An Anthology of Cambridge Women’s Verse edited by Margaret Thomas
An Anthology of Cambridge Women’s Verse. Thomas, Margaret, ed. Hogarth Living Poets No. 20. Hogarth Press. First edition. London. 1931. Printed salmon boards. 56 pp. A very good copy with slight stain at top of front board and slight rubbing to spine. Includes early work of Kathleen Raine. Includes a spirited introduction by Margaret Thomas suggesting the literary establishment should take undergraduate poetry more seriously, criticizes the vogue of modernist poetry by men -- accusing them of “bluffing,” while women, she says cannot bluff. “If they were their examination results would improve by leaps and bounds, and the believer in the Inferiority of Women’s Brains would be considered as hopelessly out-of-date as the believer in Original Sin.” Whew! A lovely copy in near fine condition.
