Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

£300.00

Special illustrated edition. London: J.M. Dent, 1907. Northanger Abbey was the first novel finished by Jane Austen, but was published posthumously alongside Persuasion in 1817. A beautiful edition with gilt decoration on vellum and the classic pastel illustrations of C.E. Brock. A coming of age story filled with humour and irony, Northanger Abbey is Austen’s brilliant send-up of the popular Gothic novel, and was long misunderstood by critics for this reason.

Hardcover, 8vo. x, A-N8. Vellum and gold gilt patterned binding. Guttering cracked at front and back between endpaper and flyleaf, but text block sturdy. Book edge shows signs of light wear. Very slight occasional foxing, especially on the back of illustration pages. Attractive copy in overall good condition.
