Illustrated Art and Handicraft in the Woman's Building by Maud Howe Elliott
Illustrated Art and Handicraft in the Woman's Building by Maud Howe Elliott
Edited by Maude Howe Elliot, American author and daughter of anti-slavery activist Julia Ward Howe. Her most notable work was a biography of her mother, written in collaboration with her sisters, for which they won the Pulizter Prize.
The book contains 30 articles written by women about the Women’s Building at the Chicago’s World’s Columbian Exposition. The pieces explore the architecture and construction of the building, as well as the topics exhibited inside, including women’s contributions to handicraft, as well as art, literature and science. A handsome publication with gold gilt endpapers and cloth decorated boards.
Goupil & Co., 1893. First edition. 287 Pages. 12.5 x 17.5 x 3. Harcover. Smudge on front cover print. Corner bumped and cloth splitting slightly at ends of spine. Very good overall.
