Bananas was a notable literary journal 1975-1981, edited by writer Emma Tennant. This volume includes 'The Company of Wolves' by Angela Carter alongside writing by Sara Maitland, Beryl Bainbridge, Ruth Fainlight and more. In her introduction Tennant notes that readers were annoyed with the first issue of Bananas, which “seemed to deal mainly with the killing of men by women” and a showed a lack of annoyance when a later issue dealt “with the killing of women by men - so well accepted a subject I suppose, that there can be no grounds for complaint.”

Emma Tennant published some of the most important English writing in the last quarter of the 20th century in Britain and deserves more acknowledgement for Bananas and its literary impact.
