Children Coming Home by Gwendolyn Brooks
Children Coming Home by Gwendolyn Brooks
Inscribed copy. Thoughtfully designed to resemble a school composition notebook, Children Coming Home contains a series of poems about the young people Brooks observed in her daily life. Brooks self-published the volume and named her imprint The David Company, after her father. In 2014 in Callaloo, Rachel Conrad wrote, “It is a courageous and audacious act to build, as Gwendolyn Brooks does in Children Coming Home, a collection of poems for adults that hews unrelentingly to the perspectives of children, and thus prods and provokes adult readers to contemplate and inhabit the complex daily lives of young people.”
First edition, soft cover. 20 pp. Inscribed by the author. Very slight wear on edges and corners, almost unnoticeable. Otherwise a near fine copy.
