Persuasion and Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
Persuasion and Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
The first inexpensive copies of Austen to be published, the trend at the time being to produce “triple deckers.” A sparse copy of an early version of two of Austen’s classics that still manages to charm in its simplicity.
London: Richard Bentley, 1837. Bentley Standard. Octavo. 17 x 11 x 3. 440 pages. Two novels published together in a single volume as with Bentley Standard Novels. Dark blue morocco quarter-bound over grey paper boards, lettering NORTHANGER ABBEY in gilt to spine. Page edges lightly marbled. A little bumped over, front spine edge split, but only the morocco so this edition remains tightly bound. Original frontispiece missing but earlier version glued in for both novels together, along with a single frontispiece for Northanger Abbey. No dust jacket. Very good condition.
