Sue Grafton revitalised the mystery thriller novel in the 1980’s by introducing a professional women investigator, Kinsey Milhone. Setting her mysteries in a rapidly changing California, Grafton wrote in the first person, detailing events moment by moment. Grafton swept up genre prizes for best mystery novel and lifetime achievement, dying in 2017 just before completing her alphabetic series started with “A” is for Alibi.
