Jacob's Room by Virginia Woolf
Jacob's Room by Virginia Woolf
Published originally in 1922, the original print run for her second novel, Jacob’s Room, was small and it aimed at a targeted readership already familiar with Woolf’s work. Mrs. Dalloway, published in 1925, had a print run of only 2,000.
In 1929 when Hogarth debuted the Uniform Edition of Woolf’s work, her first two books were out of print. The lower price of these simple and handsome editions allowed for a much broader readership. Today, they allow for a Woolf fan to collect editions, many published in her lifetime, at a price in reach, while her first editions continue to be appropriately expensive. The Uniform Editions are not entirely easy to find in very good condition, but the hunt is a part of the joy of collecting. The Uniform Editions continued to be released after Woolf’s death, but in yellow jackets.
London: Hogarth Press, 1947. Reprinted Uniform edition. 18 x 12 x 2. 176 pages. Hardback. Jacket chipped at spine and corners, with small tear to front bottom edge. Age spotting to edges and endpapers.
