Adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s The King’s General for television by Olaf Pooley

Adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s The King’s General for television by Olaf Pooley

£600.00

Olaf Pooley's script for an unrealised Sebastian Film Productions TV adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s novel, The King's General, produced by Gabrielle Beaumont. Beaumont, who was distantly related to du Maurier, later married Pooley. She went on to become well-known producer and director of US television programs.

Laid into the card bound script is a letter of seven sides on Sebastian Film Productions note paper addressed to Daphne Du Maurier. Olaf Pooley discusses the difficulties of breaking the story into episodes, especially truncating the illness of General Richard Grenville until his imprisonment at St Michael's Mount. Pooley also writes that he is about to embark on a screenplay of Du Maurier's story "Not After Midnight" and says how much he would like to visit to discuss the work.
