Early collection of poetry by one of America’s most acclaimed poets. Giovanni emerged in the 60s at the forefront of the Black Arts Movement and Civil Rights Movement. She has an incredible body of work including children’s books, and founded a publishing company to put more Black authors in print. Written between written between 1970-1975, this collection is divided into poems about women and poems about men, and a third section called ‘and some places.’ With three illustrations dividing the sections by illustrator James Barkley, who also illustrated the jacket cover.
