Bette Davis Mother Goddam by Whitney Stine with Bette Davis
Bette Davis Mother Goddam by Whitney Stine with Bette Davis
Inscribed by Bette Davis “For Leo McKern, What a pleasure to watch you work. I am proud to be in the film with you. Bette Davis.” Davis and McKern were acting together in Murder with Mirrors by Agatha Christie, a made for TV version with Helen Hayes. Davis was in her late seventies when the film was made, filming on location in England, and she died 5 years later.
Bette Davis's Mother Goddam introduces a twist in the tale -- initially written as a straight up filmography and biography, author Stine asked Davis to read it before publication. Davis’s numerous comments and corrections were transcribed directly into the text, making it far more revealing. The biography was first published in the USA in 1974, this paperback version was printed in the UK where Davis was working. This book is in wonderful condition and has been carefully kept for almost 40 years.
London: Star Books, 1984. Paperback. 302 pages. 17.5 x 11 cm. Laid into this book is a note on letterhead to McKern from screenwriter George Eckstein, dated 4 December 1984, thanking him for his work on the film. In near fine condition.
