Marina Lewycka’s hilarious and sharp first novel won a prize for comic writing, and yet shows concern for her characters as they are impacted by international politics and economics. Lewycka is a British writer of Ukrainian background who was born in a refugee camp in Germany after World War II. In addition to her novels and stories she wrote professionally for Age Concern and taught media studies at university.
