Lycanthia or The Children of Wolves by Tanith Lee
Lycanthia or The Children of Wolves by Tanith Lee
A giant of British genre fiction, Tanith Lee’s work spans science fiction, fantasy, horror, romance, crime, and historical fiction categories. Lee fell in love with writing at the age of 9, and never stopped, publishing more than 90 novels and 300 short stories over the course of her career, and wrote for radio and TV as well.
Lee’s works are recognisable for their sensuality and lush imagery, and a strong focus on personal autonomy and rites of passage.
Lee was the first woman to win the British Fantasy Award for Best Novel, for her book Death’s Master, in 1980. She was also the recipient of numerous other awards, including the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Horror.
Lycanthia is one of Lee’s longer works on werewolves, alongside short story “Wolfland”, which are striking for their more positive portrayal of werewolves as connected to nature and the cycles of the moon.
