The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman by Angela Carter
The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman by Angela Carter
Rupert Hart-Davis, 1972. First Edition.
The recipient is Lisa Tuttle, award winning science fiction author who very much shared Carter’s desire for feminist interrogation of existing tropes, or the practice of asking “New questions of old texts”, a direct quote from Tuttle, in the service of a kind of feminist revisionist mythology, the practice of which Angela Carter all but perfected in works like The Bloody Chamber, and The Magic Toyshop. A nice association in lovely condition. Inscribed by the author to the title page: “To Lisa- Best Wishes, Angela”.
8vo. 286pp. Publisher’s original tan cloth titled in gilt to the spine, in a very good, clean, and sharp example of the dustjacket, some minor edgewear, and a little spotting to the top edge and the inside flap, but essentially a near fine copy of an outstanding book.
