Elizabeth Raffald was a cook, housekeeper and writer from Manchester, now known as the Mother of the Modern Wedding Cake, for her Bride Cake recipe presented in this book. As housekeeper to Lady Elizabeth Warburton, Raffald had the materials and audience to develop her “Nine Hundred Original Recipes Most of Which Have Never Appeared in Print.”
This is the fifth edition, signed by the author, enlarged with three folding copper plate illustrations; one of a “new-invented Fire Stove, wherein any common Fuel may be burnt instead of Charcoal” and two “Plans of a Grand Table of Two Covers.”
An excellent cookery book with recipes to interest the modern cook and historical context to entertain any 18th century scholar.
