Atalanta's Garland Being the Book of the Edinburgh University Women’s Union. Edinburgh: Printed at the University Press by T. and A. Constable Ltd, 1926.

An eclectic literary and arts magazine with contributions from a range of well- known writers including Katherine Mansfield, Hilaire Belloc, W. H. Davies, Walter de la Mare, Charlotte Mew, and Fredegond Shove (Virginia Woolf’s cousin) among many others. Virginia Woolf’s contribution is a short story called “A Woman’s College from Outside” and is focused on themes that later would congeal to form A Room of One’s Own - this particular story was from an initial draft of Jacob’s Room. Artwork includes work by the Glasgow Girls member Jessie M. King.

Originally published to commemorate the founding the the Women’s Union and to raise funds for its endowment. A wonderful collection and an attractive item for a Woolf or Mansfield collector or modern literature collector.

Octavo. Quarter cream cloth over pattered grey and cream boards. Some bubbling to cloth. Printed title label in black on cover. 192pp and twelve full colour illustrations. 2000 copy print run with 950 copies only with cloth spine. Slightly foxed. Ownership inscription on ffep ‘Christina Frith. Oct 1956.’
