The Life of Nancy by Sarah Orne Jewett
The Life of Nancy by Sarah Orne Jewett
Boston and New York: Houghton, Mifflin and Company, 1895.
First edition of this critically-acclaimed collection bringing together eleven of Jewett’s short stories. Originally appearing in Harper’s Magazine, The Atlantic, The Nation, and The Century, they are collected here together for the first time.
Each of the individual tales included within The Life of Nancy contain a theme familiar to Jewett’s writing; that of nostalgia, and a desire to revive traditional values. The title story is a romance which explores the relationship between two protagonists, Nancy Gale and Tom Aldus, over a period of some fifteen years.
A sentimental collection of 19th century fiction.
