In the Steps of John Bunyan by Vera Brittain
In the Steps of John Bunyan by Vera Brittain
Vera Brittain is best known for her 1933 memoir “Testament of Youth” which chronicles her life during WWI as a VAD nurse, and which described her pacifist philosophy, and validated a generation of women of the war and the sorrow-filled after-effects of it on their lives.
Much of Brittain’s writing and work after the war focused on peacemaking and peacemakers as well as Christianity, including this examination of the life of John Bunyan, which not only recounts his background and most important works, but grapples with them on a religious and political level, demonstrating Brittain’s remarkable ability to find the person behind the text.
