Follies & Grottoes by Barbara Jones

Follies & Grottoes by Barbara Jones

£200.00

Follies and grottoes are eccentric architectural features that exist only for the pleasure of the owner, often secret spots to picnic or canoodle.

The most delightful reference to them and their history is Follies & Grottoes by British artist, writer, and illustrator, Barbara Jones. Jones studied at the Royal College of Art and went on to paint murals for many public buildings and exhibitions, as well as for P&O cruise ships. She also curated exhibitions and published and worked on the children’s TV series, The Woodentops. Much of her work wasn’t preserved due to its ephemeral nature, so her books are a wonderful documentation of her talent and skill. A perfect book for daydreaming or for a romantic gift.

Glasgow: The University Press Glasgow, 1953. First edition. 264 pages. 23 x 15 x 3.5. Some spotting to endpapers, else clean. Very good in very good jacket. With a mixture of illustrations and photographs in black and white.
